I would have liked to make this announcement sooner but things don't always go as planned in a transition period such as this.
That's right folks, It's me.
Thank you all for the nomination as captain. I am honoured to lead the team this year. I would like to thank the Don for his years of service and commitment. He has done a sterling job of developing the team to point it is now at and it is my intention to build on these achievements as we move to bring the tournament home for 2019!
I would like to keep Garrick as vice captain as I feel he is an excellent organiser as well as player. A real asset.
I think we have some really solid players in the mix now with a fantastic core of players. I am very optimistic of our chances of Improving our placing and winning hosting rights.
I'm waiting on a couple of people confirming their interest in joining the team but I pretty much have my team picked. I will post this in the next few days along with my suggestions for races that we should all use. Stay tuned for this.
In the meantime it's business as usual. So keep going to tournaments and getting the practice in.

I'm pleased to announce that the team for Eurobowl 2017 in Portugal will be...
Captain - Purdindas Vice Captain - Garrick HumptyTrump Sadface Mike_Rushby Loki Sann0638 Valen
Apologies to those who didn't make the draft.
Below I have listed the team members highest ranked NAF teams along with their rankings. I have also included teams that players have taken to Eurobowls/World Cups. The intention is to provide some evidence of competency and experience.
Loki Lizards - 192 Chaos Dwarves - 160 Wood Elves - 167 Historical teams - Lizards & Wood Elves
Valen Amazons - 209 Chaos Dwarves - 196 High Elves - 191 Historical teams - Dwarves & High Elves
HumptyTrump Wood Elves - 165 Skaven - 140 Historical teams - Wood Elves & Skaven
Garrick Dark Elves - 245 Norse - 184 Wood Elves - 182 Historical teams - Dark Elves & Norse
Sann0638 Amazons - 190 Lizards - 195 Skaven - 182 Historical teams - Necromantic, Lizards & Norse
Sadface Wood Elves - 162
Mike_Rushby Chaos Dwarves - 179 Norse - 159 Amazons - 149 Historical Teams - Norse
Purdindas Norse - 173 Wood Elves - 164 Undead - 163 Historical teams - High Elves, Undead & Wood Elves
Unless there are any major objections, I would like to propose the following for team picks;
Purdindas - Norse Garrick - Dark Elves HumptyTrump - Amazons Sadface - Wood Elves Mike_Rushby - Chaos Dwarves Loki - Lizards Sann0638 - Skaven Valen - Dwarves
I have a slight quandary when it comes to wood elves as it comes to Wood Elves. My solution is to keep Sadface as the Wood Elf player while HumptyTrump gets Amazons. Ralph has agreed to play with the zons for the foreseeable future in order to build proficiency. I realise this is not ideal but we have time to prepare.
Thoughts?

Lizards all good with me, think the team choices look reasonable apart from no Undead; that's a big call

Good luck guys, bring it home.
Only comment would be no one taking undead?

I would like to echo Ant's sentiments about DonShula and the renaissance in Scottish Blood Bowl he has lead. I would also like to confirm that I would be delighted to continue in the role as Vice Captain. Regarding the team and the race choices, I thought you had got two of the races against the wrong coaches until I read your final paragraph but now it all makes sense and the choice of races seems to be a good fit (surprise, surprise, I am delighted to take Dark Elves ) One comment I would make is that I believe Undead are stronger than Skaven and Sann's ranking with them is less than 1 point different. It might be worth spending some time looking at the thread Team England have produced on this teamengland.freeforums.org/portugal-eurobowl-rules-which-are-the-best-8-races-t366.html

Excellent work Ant; a fantastic starting point in a timely manner! To echo the others on the undead point - didn't El Presidente go 4-2-0 with Undead at the NAF Champs? Admittedly 5 years ago but hey! Anyway, I'm excited :-)

I dont mind using undead or Skaven if Mike wanted to switch to Undead, I think both these teams are better than dwarves?

I'm happy to play anything, and would play them for as many tournaments as I could before then. Excited to be picked! Let me know before Waterbowl, and I'll start the campaign then!

Valen, I'm happy for you to take undead and Sann stick with the Skaven.
Are there any other issues?

Valen's Undead ranking is 153 Would it not make sense for Sann to play Undead (181) and Valen to play Skaven (173) rather than Valen taking up a team he has hardly played in tournaments before?

OK I have read the whole of the Team England thread on which 8 races to choose for Eurobowl 2017 teamengland.freeforums.org/portugal-eurobowl-rules-which-are-the-best-8-races-t366-50.html and Wulfyn summarises the thread quite well on page 6: Tier 1a = Undead, Wood Elves, Dark Elves, and Lizards Then Tier 1b = Dwarves and Amazons And Tier 1c = Skaven, Chaos Dwarves, Norse Then Tier 2a = Necromantic, Humans, maybe High and Pro Elves I have not listed Orcs because I think the feeling is that they are not actually Tier 1. They are deceptive because on paper they should be as tier 1 as they come but the results at both general and high level play just look like they get boned too often. They are certainly an enigma but I think that there is no appetite in England for them to be selected. So I think that the question then becomes whether the Tiered skills package elevates any of the tier 2a teams above the tier 1c teams. For the last one TE clearly felt that there was (Lycos took Necro and Phil took Humans). I think the reason why Dwarves are favoured is because of the format of the competition. When comparing against a T1 8-team selection (Amazons, Dark Elves, Dwarves, Lizards, Norse, Skaven, Undead, Wood Elves) the Dwarves have the 3rd best record of all teams - which would be 2nd if you excluded their games against Undead or Lizards who they have a horrible time against. What they are not good at (as much as other Tier 1a teams) is securing wins against the middle level teams. So I think in an individual tournament the high number of Undead and Lizard teams makes it hard for them to place well; any success means they are going to start bumping into those guys and generally not do well. In a team tournament there is a lower chance of meeting them at the top tables (25%) and this is mitigated by the number of easier games they can face. Also I think in a team tournament a draw is not such a bad result. Turning losses into draws will never win you a solo tournament, but it is the lifeblood of larger team tournaments I think.
