I stumbled over these official variants for special play cards. Thought I'd share them here. www.bloodbowl.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Special-Play-Card-Variants-v2.pdfThey fix two of the concerns I had with special play cards: -The higher team value team getting more cards. -Different cards having different power levels. In all varients the cards are grouped by power level and the number of cards chosen are based on the highest teams TV.

After a few chats at ELG last night specifically on the subject of Cards and Wizards the suggestion was that we use the cards for a season and see what we all think, and we drop Wizards until GW bring them back. The point that we should stay as close to the BB2016 game rules as we can, was strongly made by a number of people. I can't reiterate this enough. Half implementing the rules just leads to cherry picking and arguments, as well as making it harder for newcomers to the league to hit the ground running. We really should adopt the new core rules in their entirety. The new league rules don't necessarily fit our format so I can understand the reason for not adopting them straight away, though maybe experimenting with them in future might be worth a shot. As for cards and no wizards I'm for adopting both these new rules at least for one season to see how it works out. Either we accept change, or we succumb to stagnation. The cost of not adopting the new rules is the risk of a steady decline and fragmentation of the community. At worst if after a few seasons we find the game is completely broken and unplayable we can alway go back to the drawing board and house rule things.

I think we should definitely adopt:
Basic rules - skill changes (Piling on, Skaven Weeping Blade), roster change (Human Catcher), game change (Cards, MVP nomination)
As that makes it easier for new players coming in from the video game (which I imagine will get those rules), and from GW shops a bit easier. The last thing we would want is to fragment the community, there are terrible stories of leagues still trapped in 4 edition blood bowl to this day...
As for:
League rules - Drafting, Expensive Mistakes, etc,
I would be pretty keen to at least give these a go for the same reason as above. It just makes bringing in new players easier. Not to mention it sounds like a much needed breath of fresh air. It might also bring those tired of the game back int the fold by adding a new unexplored element to the game.
